Information Packet
Location
The Wildwood Summer Project is located on the New Jersey shore, near the southern tip of the state, just above historic Cape May.
Project Dates
Arrive on Friday, June 1st, between 1 and 4 p.m. You may leave in the morning on Wednesday, August 8th. The project is about 10 weeks long. Important: Any late arrivals, early departures or mid-project trips (e.g., if you’re in a wedding) need to be approved by the project directors, even if you mentioned it on your application. Please call or e-mail.
Here’s our summer address:
Your Name
c/o Campus Crusade for Christ
121 E. Maple Ave.
Wildwood, NJ 08260
Please don’t have mail sent here before June 1st.
Housing
We rent 2 houses, which are divided into apartments. These apartments are mostly made up of bedrooms, a kitchen and a bathroom. We also rent a couple of condos. In any case, you’ll be living with 5 to 12 other students, sharing a kitchen and bath. The space is tight! But you’ll find that it develops real unity.
We are 4 blocks from the boardwalk and beach. Oh and did we tell you? All our housing has central air!!!
Food
Each apartment is equipped with a full kitchen—pots, pans, plates and utensils included. Cooking, cleaning and shopping details will be worked out by apartment.
Cost
The total project fee for the summer is $2850, which must be paid by June 25. This includes your rent and project expenses. (Meals are not included in this fee). You can pay this yourself or you can develop a team of partners to cover your expenses. We strongly encourage you to develop the needed support. Raising support will build your faith as you see God provide, will allow others to be a part of your ministry (after all, this is a missions project), and will allow you to save the money you earn at work for school in the Fall.
How much support will you need? Add up the following expenses:
Rent and project fee: $2850
Travel expenses: $ ???
Food ($60+ per week): $ 600
–––––––
Total: $3450
The amount of support you raise over the $2850 project fee may be applied to reimburse you for travel expenses and food. You can’t be reimbursed for more money than you actually raise.
What to do with your support checks
Aaron Halvorsen will be coaching you through your support raising process. If you have any questions, please email Aaron (aaron.halvorsen@gmail.com) or ask in the Wildwood Summer Project 2012 facebook group. Please mail send all the checks to Aaron Halvorsen. Here are a few of the important things to know regarding donations.
1. When do I send the money in? There are several financial deadlines. You must send in all the checks you have on these dates: March 1, April 1, April 15, and May 1.
You need to make two copies of all your checks. One to keep and one to send with your checks. When you send your checks please also include the total number of checks sent as well as the total dollar amount. Be sure to keep your record of the checks you send each time in case they get lost in the mail. Send them to:
Aaron Halvorsen
Attn: Wildwood SP
1626 Massachusetts Ave
Cambridge MA 02138
(Even while on project, your support checks will be sent to the above address)
2. What do I do if I receive cash? Do not send it through the mail. List all cash sponsors with their complete addresses on this form. Keep one copy and send one in. Replace the total cash amount with a single personal check made payable to Campus Crusade for Christ.
3. What do I do if I receive checks made payable to me? The donor will need to rewrite the check to "Campus Crusade for Christ" if they desire a tax-deductible receipt. You need to confirm with the donor what their intentions are. Yes, you need to call and ask. IF they do not want a receipt for their taxes, you can then endorse the back of the check "Payable to Campus Crusade for Christ" and then sign it.
4. What do I do with account transfer forms from my campus or staff donors? Bring them with you to project registration.
5. Thank your partners. Take time to send a thank you note to each of your partners when you get their gift.
6. What if it is close to time for project and I do not have enough support to cover the cost? Please call/email Dave or Lori... We are more than willing to work with you regarding payment or to discuss your situation. Our prayer is that no one is prevented from coming due to low support!!
Raising Support
Also on the Wildwood website is a support-raising guide (U.S. Summer Projects Support Raising Strategy) to get you started. You can also ask your local Campus Crusade staff members for help (they’re support-raising veterans). Some other guidelines:
-
Have your supporters make their checks payable to Campus Crusade for Christ. Make sure they don't put your name on the check.
-
Mail your checks with a copy to Aaron Halvorsen at:
Aaron Halvorsen Attn: Wildwood SP
1626 Massachusetts Ave
Cambridge, MA 02138 -
Be sure to send a thank-you note as soon as you receive a supporter’s decision to support you!
Medical and Liability information
Please fill out the Medical Information and Liability Release forms and send them in with your deposit. Campus Crusade for Christ requires these to be filled out in order to participate in the project.
Employment (Ministry Locations)
When we arrive in Wildwood, everyone will be responsible to find full-time summer employment. Our project has a 35 year reputation in Wildwood for providing good, hard-working employees, and employers are looking forward to our arrival. So don’t worry—God will provide.
One of the best opportunities for outreach this summer will be with your fellow employees. So, as you think about what you’d like to do, keep in mind the environment for ministry that your job might provide and choose wisely.
If you have a special employment need or want to be really creative, you may begin to pursue some opportunities now, but please contact us before accepting any job. Familiarize yourself with the following requirements before you start:
- Hours may be from 6am until 5pm, Monday through Friday, and 6am-12noon Saturday so as not to conflict with any project activities.
- You may not work on Sunday.
- Your work schedule should include no fewer than 25 hours or no more than 40 hours per week.
- You must hold the job you take through the end of the project.
- All jobs must be approved by a project staff member before you accept them.
- The dates for employment are June 7th - August 2nd.
Schedule
Two words: fun and full! Project activities will be at night and on weekends. Small groups, large group meetings, evangelism, work and much more will make each week full. The summer will definitely also be fun, rewarding and exciting—but it’s not a vacation.
It’s important for you to understand that you’ll be expected to participate in all project activities. Excursions away from the project should be viewed as an exception. It is imperative that you get prior clearance from Lori or Dave for any graduations, weddings, etc.
